Uddybende information
Rillestrømper is a simple, comfortable, and timeless pair of socks, ideal for everyday wear and a favorite in any family. These socks are knit from the top down and finished at the toe, allowing for customized foot length. The pattern is written in four sizes based on shaft circumference: approx. 13/20 (15/23) 17/26 (19/29) cm when lying flat/stretched, and the fit is best when slightly snug, as the sock will stretch with wear.
These socks are worked using double-pointed or circular needles (80 cm) in size 3.0 mm, and the pattern features a groove rib (k3, p1) for a stretchy, snug fit. The heel is shaped with German short rows for a comfortable fit and neat finish. The toe is worked in stockinette and grafted using Kitchener stitch for a seamless result.
Recommended yarns include Merida by Lamana, Arwetta by Filcolana, Jawoll by Lang Yarns, or hand-dyed sock yarns. You’ll need approx. 50 (50) 75 (100) grams, depending on the chosen size. These are typical fingering weight sock yarns with a yardage of 210–220 m per 50 g, which equals a running length of approx. 215 m/50 g.
The pattern gauge is 25 sts and 34 rows per 10x10 cm in stockinette stitch on 3.0 mm needles (measured before blocking), making it suitable for most standard sock yarns. The length of the sock is fully adjustable to your preference or shoe size, with a general guide provided for foot lengths ranging from EU 35 to 42 (approx. 22–27 cm).
This project is perfect for using leftover yarns and creating unique striped or patterned designs. Whether you stick to the groove rib or switch to stockinette after the cuff, the Rillestrømper will quickly become a go-to favorite in your knitwear drawer. An ideal knit for both beginners and experienced sock makers.
