About this Pattern

Emblas Mamma is an elegant and beautifully patterned women’s sweater that blends traditional nordic design with a modern and flattering fit. The sweater features a detailed and stylish forest-inspired motif across the round yoke, drawing inspiration from nature’s shapes, making it perfect for anyone looking for a wool sweater with both character and finesse.

The sweater is knitted top-down, which makes it easy to adjust both length and fit as you go. The design includes subtle shaping at the back and a gentle taper at the waist, ensuring a flattering silhouette without compromising on comfort. You can choose to follow the pattern as written or adapt the shaping to suit your preferences—for example, by enhancing the waist for a more hourglass look or keeping the fit straight for a relaxed silhouette.

Yarn requirements vary by size and are divided into three colors:

  • Color A: approx. 650–1000 meters

  • Color B: approx. 170–350 meters

  • Color C: approx. 125–320 meters

The sweater can be knitted in several different yarn qualities. Recommended alternatives include Rauma 3-tråds (100% Norwegian wool), Hillesvåg Tinde, Sandnes Duo, Drops Karisma, Viking Merino, DSA Alpakka Tweed Classic, and Camarose Økologisk Hverdagsuld. This gives you the freedom to choose the yarn that best suits your budget, color preference, and desired texture. The original model is knitted in Rauma 3-tråds, a durable and robust yarn that is ideal for colorwork knitting.

Gauge is 22 stitches per 10 cm on 3.5 mm needles, with 3 mm needles used for ribbing.
Yardage for Rauma 3-tråds: approx. 108 meters per 50 grams.

The sweater is available in sizes XS to XXL, corresponding to a bust circumference of approximately 78 to 121 cm. The recommended ease is between -2 to +4 cm, allowing you to choose whether you want a close-fitting or a more relaxed style.

The pattern includes clear instructions on how to knit the yoke, sleeves, and body, and finishes with decorative ribbed edges and the option to adjust the length. The intricate yoke motif adds visual interest and makes it a fun and rewarding project—ideal for the confident beginner or experienced knitter.

I started designing patterns in 2014. What were the children missing in their wardrobes that could be worn both at home and at daycare again and again? While the children’s wardrobes were overflowing with home knits, I looked into my own closet and realized that all the garments I had already knitted for my children were missing there. That’s when an era of practical garments for adults began—many with feminine details and with the option to adapt them to your body and your preferences.
