The Matilda Clutch by AxelKnit is a soft, textured and luxurious accessory designed to elevate any outfit. Worked in one piece from the bottom up, it features a double-knitted base for structure and bubble-stitch walls for volume and softness. The base is knitted in double knitting, creating a firm and stable foundation. Stitches are then picked up along all edges and worked in the round using the bubble stitch pattern. This stitch gives the clutch its signature plush texture and makes it both visually appealing and pleasant to hold.
The yarn combination is essential for the Matilda Clutch’s fluffy appearance. It is worked using 40 (50) 70 g of Paris, Nepal eller Big Merino fra Drops (each 50 g = approx. 75 m), held together with 15 (25) 35 g Brushed Alpaca Silk or 10 (20) 30 g Kid-Silk. The combination creates an airy, soft fabric with excellent body and structure. Gauge is 16 sts × 20 rows on 5 mm needles in bubble stitch and double knitting, ensuring the clutch maintains its shape.
The walls are worked continuously in the round, even though the stitches are distributed across both circular and double-pointed needles. After reaching the desired height, stitches are bound off firmly to produce a neat, crisp edge. Tabs are knitted in double knitting at each end to form a strong base for the zipper installation.
The zipper is sewn in by hand using basting stitches first to ensure perfect placement. A lining may be added if desired for additional support and a polished look.
