Sakura Open Vest (EN)

About Sakura Open Vest (EN)

Sakura Open Vest is a lightweight vest or top worked from the bottom up in silk mohair and a coordinating fingering-weight yarn. The front features a lace panel with chart and written instructions. The fit is classic, with gentle armhole and neckline shaping and twisted rib edges.

Shoulders are joined seamlessly with Kitchener stitch, and front bands are finished with functional buttonholes. You’ll need 11–14 small buttons depending on size.

The pattern is written for Tilia + Arwetta (Filcolana), but we recommend Lang Yarns Lace Mohair + Jawoll as a soft, high-quality alternative.
Available in sizes XS–4XL.

About this Pattern

Sakura Open Vest is a light and feminine vest that can be styled in several ways—wear it as a top in warmer months or as a sleeveless cardigan over dresses and shirts throughout the year. The design features an elegant Sakura lace motif running along the front edges, adding beautiful structure to a timeless shape.

The vest is worked bottom-up in flat pieces and seamed at the shoulders using invisible stitches. Fronts and back are shaped separately with gentle armhole and neckline shaping. The pattern includes both lace charts and row-by-row written instructions, so you can choose your preferred method.

Rib edges are worked in twisted 1x1 rib, and the button bands are finished with functional buttonholes. You will need 11–14 small buttons (10 mm) depending on the size.

The original pattern uses silk mohair held together with a strand of fingering or light sport weight yarn, such as Tilia and Arwetta from Filcolana. We recommend Lang Yarns Lace Mohair held together with Lang Yarns Jawoll as an excellent alternative—giving the same soft halo and strength with beautiful stitch definition and colour range. → Order also the yarn kit here

Dorte Bak Knitting

Dorte Bak Knitting was founded in 2018 and has since published patterns in a classic style with "whimsical" details. I grew up among creative women; all the women in my family have sewn, knitted, and created with their hands. Therefore, it felt entirely natural that, at the age of six, I was given my first knitting needles. Even so, it was only later in life that knitting truly captured me—and since then I haven’t been able to let it go.
