About this Pattern

The Temple Scarf by Mrs FunnyValentine is a calm, tactile accessory designed with a focus on softness, structure and sensory comfort. Inspired by Temple Grandin and her work with perception and neurodiversity, the scarf is meant to feel reassuring on the body, offering warmth and gentle presence without heaviness. The design reflects a balance between tenderness and clarity, creating a piece that feels grounding, protective and easy to wear.

The scarf is worked flat in rows and features softly rounded ends formed through carefully placed increases and decreases. After the initial shaping, the scarf is worked straight to length before finishing with a mirrored rounded edge. This construction gives the scarf a clean, flowing silhouette that drapes naturally around the neck and shoulders. A decorative vertical line is added at the end using a faux-knit stitch embroidered in a contrasting color, creating a subtle visual anchor and a thoughtful design detail.

The Temple Scarf is knitted primarily in Lana Grossa Orsetto, a plush bouclé yarn made from 60 percent merino and 40 percent alpaca. The yarn has a yardage of 75 meters per 50 grams and creates a soft, fleece-like fabric that feels gentle and warm against the skin. The total yarn requirement is approximately 350 meters, corresponding to 5 balls. A small amount of contrasting yarn is used for the decorative stitched line, approximately 10 meters of a smooth DK-weight yarn such as Lana Grossa Cool Wool Big.

The finished scarf measures approximately 212 cm in length and 28 cm in width after washing and blocking. It is worked on 5.5 mm needles or the needle size required to obtain gauge. The gauge is 12 stitches and 19 rows per 10 cm in stockinette stitch using the bouclé yarn.

The scarf is designed as a one-size accessory, making it suitable for a wide range of styling options. It can be wrapped closely around the neck for warmth or worn more loosely as a long, draping scarf. The textured surface and soft structure make it especially comforting to wear, while the simple construction allows the material and proportions to take center stage.

The Temple Scarf is a mindful knitting project that highlights the beauty of texture and repetition. It is an ideal design for knitters who appreciate slow knitting, soft materials and garments that feel as good as they look. A timeless piece that offers warmth, calm and quiet strength.
