About this Pattern

Adrian Mittens are a pair of practical and charming children's mittens that combine functionality with a playful, colorful, and timeless look in two colors. The mittens have a rounded top and are designed so that the right and left hands are identical – a great advantage for both children and parents in a busy, active everyday life. They are suitable for both daily use and as a warm, personal gift idea for babies and children.

The pattern covers sizes from 6–12 months up to 7–8 years. Hand circumference ranges from approximately 12 to 18 cm, and hand length spans from approximately 10 to 17 cm. This makes them perfect for both little ones and slightly older, adventurous children. The mittens are knitted in the round on double-pointed needles using ribbing and stockinette stitch.

Use 3 mm needles for the ribbing and 3.5 mm needles for the rest of the work. The gauge is 24 stitches per 10 cm. The 1x1 rib structure gives a snug and stretchy fit around the wrist, while the rest of the mitten is worked in stockinette stitch with classic, narrow stripes.

The mittens are knitted in two contrasting colors. Yarn usage depends on the size:

  • Color A: 25–65 meters

  • Color B: 20–40 meters

Recommended yarns:

  • Wool4You Capella – 350 m/100 g, 100% wool: The original yarn used in the model. Light and warm with beautiful colors and a long yardage.

  • Rauma Finull – 175 m/50 g, 100% wool: A classic and durable wool yarn with good structure, perfect for children's clothing.

  • Gepard All Day GOTS – 175 m/50 g, 100% organic merino wool: Soft, comfortable, and allergy-friendly yarn with high comfort.

The thumb gusset is shaped with simple increases and finished in stockinette stitch. Finally, a matching thumb is knitted, and the mitten is finished by threading the yarn through the remaining stitches. A manageable project, perfect for beginners and anyone looking for a quick, fun, yet practical knitting project.

Adrian Mittens are warm, functional, and easy to fit – an ideal accessory for autumn and winter.

I started designing patterns in 2014. What were the children missing in their wardrobes that could be worn both at home and at daycare again and again? While the children’s wardrobes were overflowing with home knits, I looked into my own closet and realized that all the garments I had already knitted for my children were missing there. That’s when an era of practical garments for adults began—many with feminine details and with the option to adapt them to your body and your preferences.
