About this Pattern

The Angelica Tutu is a charming and customizable crochet skirt that blends the classic granny square technique with soft tulle for a whimsical, ballet-inspired look. This design by YarnS Design is perfect for beginners familiar with basic crochet stitches. The tutu is crafted in cotton yarn and finished with layered tulle strips, making it ideal for dance, dress-up, or daily wear depending on how it's styled.

This project is constructed from multiple granny squares, which are then slip-stitched together to form the waistband. The number of squares depends on the size, ranging from newborn to age 15. Sizes available include: 0–3 months, 3–6 months, 6–9 months, 9–12 months, 1–3 years, 3–6 years, 6–10 years, and 10–15 years. The waist is adjustable with a crocheted or satin ribbon tie.

Depending on the chosen size, you will use different yarn weights:

  • 0–12 months: Super fine

  • Toddler sizes: Fine

  • Children up to 15 years: Light

Hook sizes used vary from 2.5 mm to 5 mm, again depending on the size and yarn thickness. Each tutu is adorned with tulle strips, attached directly through the stitches—no sewing required. For extra coverage, especially for daily wear, a crocheted skirt or shorts bottom can be added underneath the tulle layer.

The pattern includes additional instructions for leg warmers to complete the look. Approximate yarn usage ranges from 80 to 120 grams, and tulle requirements vary from 3.5 to 5 meters depending on the age group.

If you want a snug and secure fit, make sure to use cotton yarn—it ensures comfort and stretch while staying in place during active play or dance.
