About this Pattern

Katrin Scrunchie (Katrin Hårelastik) is a hair elastic made with the same pattern as Katrin Mittens, and both patterns are inspired by one of the many traditional Faroese patterns found in the book "Faroese Knitting Patterns" (Original Title: Føroysk Bindingarmynstur) by Hans M. Debes (1932). The elastic keeps the hair securely in place, as it also has an elastic inside. The closure is what makes the pattern more challenging, especially if you choose to do a knit-together closure around the elastic. You can knit it using yarn such as Jawoll from Lang Yarns or Class Garn from Mayflower, both on a size 3 needle. You can use a size 5-6 needle as a auxiliary needle for the closure.

Meet

Knitlidt

My name is Camilla Grady, and I am a 24-year-old student teacher, knitting and coffee enthusiast, who develops knitting patterns in my spare time. As a half-American and Dane with Faroese heritage, I am something of a cultural cocktail, which is also reflected in my knitting. That is why I chose the name Knitlidt ("strik lidt" or "knit a bit"), as it is a blend of my two mother tongues: English and Danish. Many of my patterns are inspired by Faroese knitting culture, including “Katrin,” “Nora,” and “Siri.”
