About this Pattern

Scorpio Sweater is a stunning design by Rakel from Knitter from Iceland. This pattern is part of the Zodiac Lopapeysa collection and celebrates the Scorpio sign with a beautiful Icelandic colorwork yoke. The sweater is knitted from the bottom up, with both the body and sleeves worked in the round before being joined together for the intricate yoke. The design is slim fitting with a slightly shorter body length, but it can easily be adjusted for a looser fit by sizing up.

The Scorpio sweater is knitted in the classic Icelandic yarn Istex Léttlopi, which comes in 50 g skeins of 100 meters. The recommended colors are Black 0059, White 0051, and Grey 0057, creating a timeless and striking contrast. Depending on the size, the sweater requires between 7 and 13 skeins of the main color, 1 to 3 skeins of white, and 1 skein of grey for the colorwork. The available sizes range from XXS to 5XL, with body widths between 75.5 cm and 146.5 cm, making it a versatile design that fits a wide variety of body shapes.

The pattern calls for circular and double-pointed needles in sizes 4 mm and 5 mm, with 40 and 60/80 cm lengths depending on the size you are knitting. The knitting tension is 18 stitches and 26 rows over 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles, worked in the round. With Léttlopi’s yardage, the running length per 50 g is 100 meters, which gives excellent stitch definition and warmth without being too heavy.

The construction of the sweater begins with a ribbed hem, transitioning into the main body pattern, followed by the sleeves worked separately. Once joined, the striking yoke with its symbolic Scorpio design is knitted, incorporating the contrasting shades. The neckline is finished with a ribbed collar that can be folded for extra comfort and warmth.

Finishing touches include sewing the underarms and blocking the sweater carefully to ensure even stitches and proper fit. Léttlopi softens beautifully after a gentle soak, giving the finished garment durability, warmth, and the authentic look of Icelandic knitwear. The Scorpio sweater is not only a knitting project but also a statement piece that combines tradition with modern design.

Meet

Knitter from Iceland

I learned to knit at age 6 and fell in love right away. Over the years I’ve mostly focused on traditional Icelandic Wool sweaters (lopapeysa). After a burnout in 2023, knitting became my therapy. I couldn't decide which patterns to knit, so I decided to try and make my own. The process made me feel alive again, and that’s why I haven't stopped since. My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and even music or memories.
