Hof Sweater is a timeless Icelandic sweater designed by Knitter from Iceland/Lopamunstur. This modern yet traditional design highlights the beauty of the classic Icelandic yoke with a clean, geometric motif that makes it both versatile and elegant. Knitted from the bottom up, the pattern brings together Iceland’s rich knitting heritage with a contemporary fit, resulting in a garment that is both stylish and practical for everyday wear.
The sweater is designed in Ístex Álafosslopi, a warm and durable Icelandic wool yarn that is ideal for cozy pullovers. Each 100 g skein contains 100 meters, which equals 50 meters per 50 g. The design uses three colours: Colour A – Arctic Exposure (1232), Colour B – Midnight Blue (0709), and Colour C – White (0051). The yarn requirements vary depending on size, ranging from 6 to 16 skeins in total.
You will need circular needles 6 mm and 7 mm in lengths 40 cm and 60/80 cm, as well as double-pointed needles in 6 mm and 7 mm. The recommended gauge is 13 stitches and 18 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 7 mm needles, knitted in the round. As the designer notes, she knits quite tightly, so it is advisable to make a swatch and adjust your needle size if necessary to achieve the correct gauge.
The Hof Lopapeysa is intended to have a slim fit with a slightly shorter body length, making it modern and flattering. The sweater is available in a wide size range from XXS to 5XL, with body widths ranging from 83 cm to 141.5 cm. Sleeve lengths range from 42 cm to 52 cm, depending on the chosen size.
Construction begins with the body, knitted in the round from the bottom up, followed by the sleeves. Once these are complete, they are joined together with the body to create the beautiful colourwork yoke. Two variations of the yoke chart are provided, giving you the freedom to choose the version that appeals most to you. The neckline is finished with a ribbed collar in Colour A, which can be worn either flat or folded over for extra warmth.
This pattern is perfect for knitters who enjoy working with traditional Icelandic wool and appreciate the combination of heritage and contemporary design. The resulting sweater is a versatile piece that works equally well for outdoor adventures and cozy indoor moments, offering both comfort and timeless style.
