Uddybende information
Brotabrot Sweater, designed by Rakel Lilja from Lopamunstur, is a timeless Icelandic lopapeysa that beautifully combines tradition and modern style. With its striking yoke pattern and slim fit silhouette, this sweater is a true wardrobe essential for knitters who love Nordic design. The name “Brotabrot” reflects the idea of fragments and pattern play, which comes through in the distinctive colorwork across the yoke.
The sweater is knitted bottom-up in the round, which ensures a seamless finish and a comfortable fit. You begin with the body, working in a classic k1, p1 rib on 4 mm circular needles before continuing in stockinette stitch on 5 mm needles. The sleeves are also worked in the round on double-pointed needles, then joined with the body for the decorative yoke section. This section features a beautiful multicolor pattern, where you will follow Chart 1 and introduce contrasting shades.
The recommended yarn is Ístex Léttlopi, a beloved Icelandic wool known for its warmth, lightness, and durability. Each skein is 50 g with 100 m, giving a running length of 200 m per 100 g, or 100 m per 50 g. The design uses four shades: Color A (Grey 0051), Color B (White 0051), Color C (Black 0059), and Color D (Mimosa 1404). Depending on the size, you will need between 6 and 12 skeins of Color A, plus 1 skein each of Colors B and C, and 1–2 skeins of Color D.
The tension gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles in stockinette in the round. As the designer knits tightly, it is recommended to swatch carefully and adjust your needle size if needed to achieve the correct gauge.
The Brotabrot Sweater pattern includes sizes XXS (71 cm bust width) to 5XL (140 cm bust width), ensuring a wide size range that fits many body types. The body length ranges from 30 cm in size XXS to 46 cm in size 5XL, with sleeve lengths varying from 42 to 52 cm depending on the size.
The neckline is finished with a 7 cm ribbed collar on 4 mm needles, which can be folded for extra warmth and a neat look. The final steps include seaming the underarms and gently washing and blocking the sweater to achieve the perfect shape.
This design is perfect for knitters who enjoy creating Icelandic sweaters, love working with Léttlopi yarn, and want a stylish lopapeysa with a modern fit.
