Uddybende information
Rok Sweater is a beautiful lopapeysa designed by Rakel from Lopamunstur, also known as Knitter from Iceland. This design captures the timeless charm of traditional Icelandic knitwear while offering a modern, slim fit silhouette with a slightly shorter body length. Worked seamlessly from the bottom up, both body and sleeves are knitted in the round before being joined for the striking colorwork yoke. The yoke design changes slightly depending on size, ensuring a balanced look across all ten available sizes from XXS to 5XL.
The pattern is knitted using Ístex Plötulopi, an unspun Icelandic wool yarn known for its softness, warmth, and authenticity. Plötulopi comes in 100 g plates with a generous yardage of 300 meters, and in this design it is held double throughout. That means a 50 g equivalent provides approximately 150 meters of yarn. The recommended needle sizes are 4 mm and 5 mm circulars and double-pointed needles. The knitting gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows per 10 cm on 5 mm needles, worked in the round.
The sweater uses three shades of Plötulopi: White (0001), Chocolate (1032), and Oatmeal (1030). Yarn requirements vary by size, starting at 2 plates of White for XXS and going up to 6 plates for sizes 4XL and 5XL. Each size also requires 1 plate each of Chocolate and Oatmeal for the yoke contrast. The final measurements span a body width from 73 cm in XXS up to 140 cm in 5XL, with sleeve lengths between 42 and 52 cm.
Special finishing techniques are suggested, including blocking in lukewarm water with a touch of hair conditioner for softness. The pattern also provides guidance on optional collar finishing, where the ribbed neckline can be knit up to 15 cm for a cozy, foldable collar.
The Rok sweater is perfect for knitters who love traditional Icelandic designs but prefer a contemporary fit. With its rich colorwork, warm Icelandic wool, and versatile sizing, this lopapeysa is an heirloom piece that combines function and beauty. Whether you knit it as a snug, slim fit or size up for a looser silhouette, Rok is a rewarding project that highlights the unique character of Plötulopi and the artistry of Icelandic knitting.
