Uddybende information

Capricorn Sweater is a beautiful Icelandic sweater designed by Rakel from Knitter from Iceland. This timeless design is part of the Zodiac Lopapeysa collection and is knitted in the soft and durable Ístex Léttlopi yarn, a classic choice for traditional Icelandic sweaters. The sweater is worked from the bottom up, with both the body and sleeves knitted in the round before being joined together for the stunning colourwork yoke inspired by the Capricorn zodiac sign. The design has a slim fit and slightly shorter body length, but you can easily size up if you prefer a looser fit.

The pattern calls for Léttlopi, a yarn spun from 100% Icelandic wool. Each 50 g skein has a yardage of 100 meters, which gives a running length of 100 m per 50 g. This yarn provides warmth, breathability, and the rustic texture that makes Icelandic sweaters so iconic. For the colour palette, the design uses Beige (0086) as the main shade, complemented by Black Sheep (0052) and White (0051) for the striking yoke motif. Depending on size, you will need between 5 and 13 skeins of Colour A, 2 to 3 skeins of Colour B, and 1 to 3 skeins of Colour C.

Knitting is done with 4 mm and 5 mm circular needles (40 cm and 60/80 cm, depending on size) as well as matching double-pointed needles for the sleeves. The gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows per 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles, knitted in the round. This ensures the correct fit and structure of the sweater.

The Capricorn Lopapeysa is available in a wide size range, from XXS to 5XL. Body width varies from 71 cm to 151 cm, with body length ranging from 30 cm to 46 cm and sleeve length from 42 cm to 52 cm. This makes the pattern highly inclusive and adaptable, allowing knitters to create a sweater that fits comfortably.

This design is perfect for knitters who enjoy traditional colourwork and want to create a garment with deep cultural roots and astrological symbolism. The Capricorn Lopapeysa is not only a warm and functional piece but also a statement of heritage and personality. Whether worn for everyday warmth or as a special handmade treasure, this sweater will become a favourite in any wardrobe.

Lidt om

Knitter from Iceland

I learned to knit at age 6 and fell in love right away. Over the years I’ve mostly focused on traditional Icelandic Wool sweaters (lopapeysa). After a burnout in 2023, knitting became my therapy. I couldn't decide which patterns to knit, so I decided to try and make my own. The process made me feel alive again, and that’s why I haven't stopped since. My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and even music or memories.
