Uddybende information

Aries Sweater is a beautiful hand-knitting pattern designed by Rakel from Knitter from Iceland. This sweater belongs to the Zodiac collection and carries the strong identity of Aries, expressed through its traditional Icelandic yoke with bold contrasting colors. It is knitted using the classic yarn Ístex Léttlopi, which comes in 50 g skeins with a running length of 100 meters. This means that the yarn has a running length of 200 meters per 100 g and therefore 100 meters per 50 g skein. The recommended needles are 4 mm and 5 mm circular needles, with double-pointed needles in the same sizes for the sleeves and smaller circumferences. The sweater is worked from the bottom up in the round, first knitting the body and sleeves separately, then joining them to work the striking yoke motif.

The pattern is written for ten sizes, ranging from XXS to 5XL, with chest widths from 73 cm to 140 cm. The body length varies between 30 cm and 46 cm, while the sleeves measure between 42 cm and 52 cm depending on size. The design has a slim fit and a slightly shorter body length than average, but knitters preferring a looser fit can simply choose a larger size.

The colorwork requires four shades of Léttlopi. In the sample, Colour A is Red 9434, Colour B is White 0051, Colour C is Black 0059, and Colour D is Beige 1418. The smallest size requires six skeins of the main color and one skein each of the contrast colors, while the largest size uses thirteen skeins of the main color and up to three skeins of contrasts. The detailed amounts are given for each size, making it easy to plan yarn shopping in advance.

The gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows in 10 x 10 cm knitted in the round on 5 mm needles, and knitters are encouraged to swatch in the round to ensure correct tension. Blocking is recommended after finishing to bring out the best in the colorwork and to soften the natural wool fibers.

Aries Lopapeysa is a wonderful project for knitters who love traditional Icelandic sweaters with a modern twist. Its symbolic yoke pattern connects to the Aries zodiac sign, making it a personal and meaningful garment. Warm, durable, and timeless, this sweater is perfect for both everyday wear and special occasions.

Lidt om

Knitter from Iceland

I learned to knit at age 6 and fell in love right away. Over the years I’ve mostly focused on traditional Icelandic Wool sweaters (lopapeysa). After a burnout in 2023, knitting became my therapy. I couldn't decide which patterns to knit, so I decided to try and make my own. The process made me feel alive again, and that’s why I haven't stopped since. My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and even music or memories.
