Uddybende information

Taurus Sweater is a striking Icelandic sweater design created by Rakel from Knitter from Iceland. This zodiac-inspired design combines traditional Icelandic knitting with modern details, making it a unique piece in the #ZodiacLopapeysa collection. The sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up, with body and sleeves joined together for the beautiful colorwork yoke that reflects the Taurus constellation.

The pattern is knitted using Ístex Léttlopi, a classic Icelandic wool yarn spun from 100% Icelandic wool. Each skein weighs 50 g and has a running length of 100 m, which equals 100 m per 50 g. The yarn is warm, lightweight and perfect for creating durable garments with breathability and water resistance. For this sweater you will need four colors: Barley 1419 as main color, combined with White 0051, Dark Brown 0867 and Rust 9427 for the contrasting yoke pattern. Depending on the size, the required skeins vary from 6 skeins of the main color in XXS up to 11 skeins in size 5XL, along with 1–3 skeins of each contrast color.

The sweater comes in sizes XXS to 5XL, with body widths ranging from 75.5 cm to 142 cm. It has a slim fit and slightly shorter body length, so you may wish to size up if you prefer a looser fit. Sleeves and body are knitted in the round, and everything is joined before beginning the yoke chart.

The recommended needle sizes are 4 mm and 5 mm, both circular and double-pointed, depending on the part of the sweater. The tension gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows in 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles. Since the designer knits tightly, you may need to adjust to 4.5 mm or 4 mm needles to meet gauge.

The finishing details include a ribbed neckline that can be folded and sewn down for a polished look, and simple underarm seaming. After washing and blocking, the Léttlopi yarn blooms beautifully, giving the sweater its final Icelandic character.

This Taurus design is a must-knit for anyone inspired by Icelandic traditions, zodiac motifs, or timeless Nordic sweaters. Whether you knit it as a personal talisman or as a gift, the Taurus Lopapeysa combines heritage and style in the best possible way.

Lidt om

Knitter from Iceland

I learned to knit at age 6 and fell in love right away. Over the years I’ve mostly focused on traditional Icelandic Wool sweaters (lopapeysa). After a burnout in 2023, knitting became my therapy. I couldn't decide which patterns to knit, so I decided to try and make my own. The process made me feel alive again, and that’s why I haven't stopped since. My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and even music or memories.
