Uddybende information

Sagittarius Sweater is a stunning Icelandic sweater design by Rakel from Knitter from Iceland. This pattern is part of the Zodiac Lopapeysa series and is inspired by the symbol of Sagittarius, making it a meaningful knit for anyone who identifies with this sign or simply loves Icelandic colorwork. The sweater is worked in the traditional way from the bottom up, with both body and sleeves knitted in the round before being joined together for the striking yoke design. The detailed chart ensures the iconic Nordic look, with shifting colors and motifs that celebrate Icelandic knitting heritage.

The Sagittarius Lopapeysa is knitted using Ístex Léttlopi, a 100% Icelandic wool yarn known for its warmth, durability, and lightness. Each 50 g skein of Léttlopi has a running length of 100 m, which equals 200 m per 100 g. For the sweater you will need four different shades: Grey (0056) as the main color, Black (0059), Pine Green (1407), and Brick (9431). The exact amount of skeins varies by size, ranging from 6 skeins of Grey in size XS up to 13 skeins in size 5XL, plus the necessary contrasting colors.

The recommended needle sizes are 4 mm and 5 mm circular needles in lengths of 40, 60 or 80 cm, depending on the size you are making. Double-pointed needles in the same sizes are used for the sleeves if you prefer not to knit them with the magic loop technique. The gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows per 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles, knitted in the round. Since the designer knits quite tightly, it is recommended to make a swatch and adjust the needle size if needed to achieve the correct tension.

The sweater comes in sizes XXS to 5XL, ensuring a wide range of fit. The design has a slim fit with a slightly shorter body length than traditional Icelandic sweaters, so you may wish to adjust sizing for a looser fit. Measurements range from a body width of 73 cm in size XXS to 140 cm in size 5XL, with sleeve lengths between 42 and 52 cm depending on size.

With its beautiful yoke pattern, warm Icelandic wool, and unique zodiac theme, the Sagittarius Lopapeysa is a wonderful project that combines tradition, creativity, and personalization. Perfect for knitters who want to create a meaningful, stylish sweater that will last for many years.

Lidt om

Knitter from Iceland

I learned to knit at age 6 and fell in love right away. Over the years I’ve mostly focused on traditional Icelandic Wool sweaters (lopapeysa). After a burnout in 2023, knitting became my therapy. I couldn't decide which patterns to knit, so I decided to try and make my own. The process made me feel alive again, and that’s why I haven't stopped since. My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and even music or memories.
