Uddybende information
Eliot Scarf is a long, elegant rectangular scarf designed by Mrs Funny Valentine and inspired by the words and legacy of the writer George Eliot. The design reflects themes of transformation, renewal, and quiet strength, translating these ideas into a richly textured knitted accessory with timeless appeal.
The scarf features a decorative cable pattern worked against a reverse stockinette background, creating depth and visual rhythm. Delicate nupps add soft sculptural details, while the raw garter stitch edges give the scarf an organic and slightly imperfect finish that enhances its character. Eliot Scarf is designed as a mindful and engaging knit, combining classic techniques with a modern aesthetic.
The scarf is knitted holding four strands of mohair silk yarn together throughout. The original design uses a mix of mohair silk yarns such as LangYarns Mohair Luxe, Knitting For Olive Soft Silk Mohair, Järbo Fin Mohair Silke, and Purl Soho Tussock. A total of approximately 1800 meters of yarn is required, corresponding to around 8 balls of mohair silk yarn. This equals an approximate running length of 112.5 meters per 50 grams, depending on the yarns chosen. The sample is knitted using leftover yarns in soft, harmonious shades, emphasizing the sustainable and creative nature of the design.
Eliot Scarf is knitted with 4.5 mm needles, or the needle size needed to obtain gauge. The gauge is 20 stitches and 20 rows per 10 cm in reverse stockinette stitch. Achieving the correct gauge ensures a balanced fabric with a soft drape and airy texture.
The finished measurements after blocking are approximately 196 cm in length and 26 cm in width. This generous size allows the scarf to be wrapped multiple times around the neck or worn loosely for a relaxed, elegant look.
With its cable work, nupps, and multi-strand knitting, Eliot Scarf is well suited for confident knitters who enjoy textured patterns and detailed construction. The result is a distinctive scarf that feels both delicate and strong, offering warmth, beauty, and meaning in every stitch.
