Uddybende information
Marilyn Tee is a bold and playful knitted top designed by Miriam Walchshäusl, also known as Mrs Funny Valentine. Inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s iconic style, confidence and unapologetic attitude, this design celebrates femininity with a strong visual statement. The all-over cherry Fair Isle pattern instantly evokes vintage glamour and carefree summer vibes, making Marilyn Tee a true eye-catcher.
The Marilyn Tee is knit seamlessly from the top down with a round yoke construction. The neckline is shaped using short rows to ensure a comfortable and flattering fit across all sizes. After completing the yoke, the body and short sleeves are separated and worked in the round. Both body and sleeve length are easily adjustable, allowing knitters to customize the fit to their personal preference. Twisted ribbing at the neckline, hem and sleeve cuffs provides a clean, polished finish.
This design is worked in BC Garn Alba, a fingering-weight yarn made from 100% cotton. The yarn has a yardage of 160 meters per 50 grams, which equals 3.2 meters per gram or 160 meters per skein. The Marilyn Tee is knit using three colors: a main color and two contrasting colors to create the cherry motif. The crisp stitch definition of the cotton yarn makes it ideal for colorwork and ensures that the cherry pattern stands out beautifully.
The recommended needle sizes are 3.5 mm and 3.0 mm, or the needle sizes needed to achieve gauge. The blocked gauge is 27 stitches and 30 rows over 10 cm in the Marilyn pattern, measured using the larger needles.
Marilyn Tee is available in women’s sizes XS through 5XL, offering an inclusive size range. The finished chest circumference is designed with 0–5 cm of ease, resulting in a slightly fitted yet comfortable silhouette. Depending on size, total yarn usage ranges from approximately 712 meters to 1,953 meters across all colors.
This pattern is suitable for knitters who are comfortable with stranded colorwork, charts and top-down construction. Marilyn Tee is a joyful, confident design that combines classic Fair Isle techniques with a modern, feminine shape.
