Uddybende information
Marilyn Socks are a bold and playful sock design created by designer Miriam Walchshäusl, also known as Mrs Funny Valentine. Inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s iconic presence, cherry-red lipstick and unapologetic confidence, this design combines classic sock construction with a cheerful Fair Isle cherry motif. The result is a pair of socks full of personality, charm and vintage-inspired flair.
The Marilyn Socks are knit from the top down, starting with an elastic cast-on and a twisted rib cuff. A subtle pop of contrasting color at the cuff adds a refined decorative detail before the main colorwork begins. The repeating cherry Fair Isle pattern runs across both the leg and the foot, creating a cohesive and eye-catching design that feels both fun and timeless.
The heel is worked as an easy boomerang heel using German Short Rows. This heel construction provides a comfortable fit without the need for a traditional heel flap and gusset, resulting in a smooth and elegant transition from leg to foot. The toe is shaped with classic decreases for a rounded and comfortable finish.
Marilyn Socks are knit using Lang Yarns Jawoll, a durable fingering-weight sock yarn composed of 75% virgin wool and 25% nylon. The yarn has a yardage of 210 meters per 50 grams, which equals 4.2 meters per gram. This fiber blend ensures warmth, elasticity and excellent durability, making the socks suitable for everyday wear while maintaining their shape over time.
The recommended needle size is 3.0 mm or the needle size required to achieve gauge. The blocked gauge is 32 stitches and 40 rows over 10 cm in the Marilyn colorwork pattern. The pattern is available in three sizes, accommodating different foot lengths and leg circumferences.
Marilyn Socks are ideal for knitters with experience in stranded colorwork and chart reading. The cherry motif is charted only and worked throughout the sock, making this project engaging and rewarding. Marilyn Socks are a joyful statement piece that bring a touch of glamour and fun to any handmade sock collection.
