Uddybende information
Emily Shawl is an elegant and thoughtfully designed asymmetrical triangular shawl created by the knitwear designer Mrs Funny Valentine. The design is inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson and reflects the idea that life is built moment by moment. The shawl features a refined column structure combined with delicate rosebud stitches, creating a flowing fabric with depth, movement, and visual interest.
The Emily Shawl is worked from the tip along the short edge of the triangle and gradually grows through symmetrical increases towards the center line. As the shawl develops, the knitting direction changes, giving the finished piece its dynamic asymmetrical shape. Clean i-cord edges frame the shawl beautifully on all sides, and optional tassels can be added for a playful finishing touch.
The shawl is knitted using 4.0 mm needles and worked in fingering weight yarn. The original design is knitted in Purl Soho Good Wool, a 100% Andean highland wool with a yardage of 350 meters per 100 grams. The total yarn requirement is approximately 1295 meters (370 grams), which equals a running length of 175 meters per 50 grams. The sample shown is knitted in the colorway Blue Moon.
Emily Shawl comes in one generous size. Finished measurements after blocking are approximately 200 cm wingspan, 185 cm width, and 100 cm depth, making it a versatile accessory that can be worn as a shawl, wrap, or oversized scarf.
The blocked gauge for this design is 24 stitches and 27 rows per 10 cm in stockinette stitch using 4.0 mm needles. Achieving the correct gauge ensures the intended drape and proportions of the shawl.
With its meditative knitting rhythm and elegant stitch pattern, Emily Shawl is perfect for knitters who enjoy projects with structure, detail, and meaning. The pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters who are comfortable with increases, decreases, and textured stitches, and it results in a timeless accessory that can be worn year after year.
