Uddybende information
Hey Kids Sweater, designed by Rakel from Lopamunstur, also known as Knitter from Iceland, is a beautiful Icelandic lopapeysa for children, combining traditional style with modern comfort. This knitting pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up and features a classic colorwork yoke that makes the sweater stand out. Both the body and the sleeves are knitted separately before being joined together for the yoke, making the construction seamless and enjoyable.
The sweater is worked using Ístex Léttlopi, a classic Icelandic wool yarn that comes in 50 g skeins with a yardage of 100 meters, giving it a running length of 100 m per 50 g. The recommended needle sizes are 4 mm and 5 mm circular needles, as well as matching double-pointed needles depending on your preference. The required gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows per 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles. Since the designer knits tightly, it is advised to make a swatch to check your tension and adjust needle size if needed.
The sweater comes in 10 children’s sizes, with body width ranging from 56.5 cm to 84 cm, body length from 20 cm to 38 cm, and sleeve lengths from 22 cm to 40 cm. This ensures a wide range of fit for different ages. The pattern includes detailed instructions for knitting the ribbing, sleeves, yoke, and neckline, with helpful notes about adjusting the yoke chart depending on the chosen size.
The design uses three shades of Léttlopi: Color A Milkyway (1720), Color B White (0051), and Color C Violet (1414). The amount of yarn needed varies by size, starting at 4 skeins of Color A in the smallest size and going up to 7 skeins in the largest. For Colors B and C, only 1 skein each is required for all sizes, making this sweater a practical yet colorful knit.
The finishing details include a ribbed neckline, which can be folded and sewn down for a neat and cozy collar. After knitting, the sweater is blocked gently to bring out the softness and even out the stitches, with special care to avoid color bleeding.
The Hey Kids Sweater is perfect for knitters who enjoy working with traditional Icelandic yarn and want to create a warm, durable, and stylish garment for children. With its timeless design and practical construction, it is a piece that will be cherished for years.
