Luise Shawlette is a small, elegant shawl designed by Mrs Funny Valentine and inspired by her grandmother Luise. This design is deeply personal and rooted in memory, love, and the quiet strength passed from one generation to the next. Luise Shawlette was created as a soft and practical accessory for someone who can no longer lift her arms to wrap a large, voluminous shawl, yet still deserves warmth, beauty, and comfort.
The shawlette is worked flat in a luxurious half-brioche stitch, creating a fabric that is both lightweight and exceptionally soft with a subtle, refined texture. The symmetrical design begins at the wide base and is shaped towards the tip using German short rows, allowing the shawl to sit comfortably around the neck or drape gently over the shoulders without bulk. Invisible sewn edges create a clean, polished finish and ensure a seamless flow of the stitch pattern.
Luise Shawlette is designed to be easy to wear and versatile, making it ideal for everyday use. Its shallow depth allows it to rest naturally on the body, providing warmth without heaviness. A total of approximately 190 meters of yarn is required, which corresponds to around 2 balls. This equals a running length of 112 meters per 50 grams. The soft cashmere blend enhances the gentle nature of the design and makes it suitable for sensitive skin.
Finished measurements after blocking are approximately 150 cm in base length, 79 cm in wing length, and 19 cm in depth. The blocked gauge is 17 stitches and 38 rows per 10 cm in half-brioche stitch.
