Uddybende information
Marie Cardigan is a long, elegant knitted cardigan designed by Mrs Funny Valentine and inspired by the life and perseverance of Marie Curie. The design reflects strength, confidence, and resilience, translated into a timeless garment with thoughtful details and a strong architectural structure.
The cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down using the Cocoknits Method. Construction begins at the collar, with stitches picked up around the upper back and shoulders to shape the yoke. A distinctive half-brioche pattern is worked across the chest and upper arms, creating depth, elasticity, and a bold visual texture. The body flows into a long, relaxed silhouette, while the sleeves are shaped with either an edgy straight taper or a softer curved option, allowing for personal preference.
Marie Cardigan features practical front pockets that are integrated seamlessly into the design. The hem and cuffs are finished with tubular ribbing bind-offs, giving the cardigan a clean, professional finish that complements the structured stitch pattern. The deep V-neckline and open front make it a versatile layering piece suitable for both everyday wear and more refined outfits.
The cardigan is knitted using 4.0 mm and 3.5 mm needles and DK weight yarn. The original design uses Lamana Como Grande, a 100% wool yarn with a yardage of 120 meters per 50 grams. Depending on size, approximately 1451 to 2937 meters of yarn are required. This corresponds to a running length of 120 meters per 50 grams. The samples shown are knitted in the colors Slate Grey and Marmor.
Marie Cardigan is available in sizes XS, S (M, L, XL, 2XL) 3XL, 4XL. Finished chest measurements after blocking range from approximately 91.5 cm to 167.5 cm. The cardigan is designed to be worn with 11–21.5 cm of positive ease, offering comfort and ease of movement.
The blocked gauge is 19 stitches and 27 rows per 10 cm in the Marie half-brioche pattern using the larger needles. Achieving gauge is essential for the fit, structure, and length of the cardigan.
Marie Cardigan is ideal for intermediate to advanced knitters who enjoy detailed construction, textured stitches, and garments with meaning. The result is a powerful, wearable piece that embodies confidence, patience, and quiet strength.
