Mistur Sweater (EN)

Om Mistur Sweater (EN)

The Mistur Lopapeysa, designed by Rakel – Knitter from Iceland, is a classic Icelandic sweater knitted in Ístex Léttlopi. The pattern is worked in three colors (White, Black, Rust) with body and sleeves knitted in the round before joining for the striking colorwork yoke. Sizes range from XXS to 5XL, with skein requirements adjusted per size. You will need circular needles in 4 mm and 5 mm as well as double-pointed needles. The gauge is 18 sts x 26 rows = 10 cm on 5 mm needles. The sweater has a slim fit and slightly shorter body length, with the option of adjusting for a looser fit. Léttlopi comes in 50 g skeins with 100 m (equivalent to 100 m per 50 g skein), making it lightweight yet warm. The Mistur sweater is perfect for knitters who enjoy stranded knitting and timeless Nordic design.

Uddybende information

The Mistur Lopapeysa is a beautiful Icelandic sweater design by Rakel – Knitter from Iceland (Lopamunstur.is). This pattern is worked in the traditional Icelandic yarn Ístex Léttlopi, which comes in 50 g skeins of 100 m. That means the yarn has a yardage of 200 m per 100 g, equivalent to 100 m per 50 g skein.

The sweater is knitted from the bottom up, in the round, with both body and sleeves worked separately before being joined together for the striking colorwork yoke. The design uses three shades – Color A (White 0051), Color B (Black 0059), and Color C (Rust 9427) – with exact skein requirements depending on the chosen size. For the smallest size (XXS), you need 6 skeins of Color A, 1 skein each of Color B and C. For the largest size (5XL), you will need up to 12 skeins of Color A, 2 skeins each of Color B and C.

The needle sizes recommended are 4 mm and 5 mm circular needles (40–80 cm depending on size) as well as double-pointed needles in 4 mm and 5 mm. The gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles, knitted in the round. It is suggested to knit a swatch in the round to ensure correct tension.

The sweater comes in a wide size range: XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL, and 5XL. The fit is slim with a slightly shorter body length. Measurements vary from a body width of 71 cm in XXS up to 140 cm in 5XL. Sleeve lengths range from 42 cm to 52 cm depending on size.

The neckline is finished in ribbing with the option to fold the collar double for a cozier finish. Detailed finishing instructions are included, such as weaving in ends, blocking, and sewing underarms.

The Mistur Lopapeysa is an ideal project for knitters who love Icelandic sweaters and stranded colorwork. The bold yoke pattern is modern yet rooted in tradition, making this sweater a timeless garment to treasure. Worked in Léttlopi, it is lightweight yet warm, perfect for layering and everyday wear.

Lidt om

Knitter from Iceland

I learned to knit at age 6 and fell in love right away. Over the years I’ve mostly focused on traditional Icelandic Wool sweaters (lopapeysa). After a burnout in 2023, knitting became my therapy. I couldn't decide which patterns to knit, so I decided to try and make my own. The process made me feel alive again, and that’s why I haven't stopped since. My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and even music or memories.
