Montalcini Sweater is a sculptural and deeply thoughtful knit design by MrsFunnyValentine, inspired by the life and strength of neuroscientist Rita Levi-Montalcini. This sweater blends softness with structure and tells a story of resilience, patience and quiet confidence through knitting.

The design is worked seamlessly top down, allowing you to try it on as you go and easily adjust both body and sleeve length. The construction features short rows at the back neck for a comfortable fit and a voluminous folded ribbed collar that frames the neckline beautifully. A distinctive half-brioche zig-zag pattern runs across the body and sleeves, creating depth, movement and a refined textural expression.

Montalcini Sweater is knitted holding two strands together. The original version uses Pascuali Camel DK (100% camel fibre, 80 m per 25 g) held together with Pascuali Manada (lace weight blend of mohair, silk, merino and yak, 200 m per 25 g). This combination results in a soft yet structured fabric with a luxurious halo.
Running length equals 160 m per 50 g for Camel DK and 400 m per 50 g for Manada.

The sweater is available in women’s sizes XS–5XL with approximately 12–13 cm of positive ease, making it suitable for a relaxed but flattering fit across a wide range of bodies.

Recommended needles are 8 mm and 6.5 mm, depending on your knitting style and gauge.
The blocked gauge is 12 stitches × 20 rows = 10 cm in the Montalcini pattern using larger needles.
