The yarn has a length of 150 m per 50 g (300 m per 100 g plate) and the required gauge is 18 sts x 26 rows on 5 mm needles. The sweater is worked from the bottom up, in the round, with body and sleeves joined together for the colorwork yoke. Using shades Frost Grass, White, Black, and Dark Amber, the design creates a striking Icelandic motif. Sizes range from XXS to 5XL, making it highly versatile. Needle sizes used are 4 mm and 5 mm circulars and DPNs. The sweater is finished with a ribbed neckline that can be worn tall or folded over. The Nostra Sweater is a beautiful Icelandic sweater design by Rakel, Lopamunstur.is (Knitter from Iceland). This pattern brings together traditional Icelandic knitting heritage with a modern slim fit and shorter body length, making it perfect for layering or wearing on its own. The sweater is worked from the bottom up with both the body and sleeves knitted in the round before being joined together for the stunning colorwork yoke.

The design is knitted using Ístex Plötulopi, a classic unspun Icelandic wool, held double for extra warmth and durability. Each 100 g plate has 300 meters, which equals 150 meters per 50 g when held single. Since the yarn is held double throughout the project, you will achieve a thick, warm yet lightweight fabric, ideal for outdoor wear. The required gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles, knitted in the round.

The pattern uses a striking color palette:

Knitter from Iceland

I learned to knit at age 6 and fell in love right away. Over the years I’ve mostly focused on traditional Icelandic Wool sweaters (lopapeysa). After a burnout in 2023, knitting became my therapy. I couldn't decide which patterns to knit, so I decided to try and make my own. The process made me feel alive again, and that’s why I haven't stopped since. My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and even music or memories.
