Uddybende information

Vík Sweater is a beautiful Icelandic sweater designed by Rakel from Knitter from Iceland, inspired by traditional Icelandic knitting heritage with a modern fit. This timeless piece is knitted in the round from the bottom up, with body and sleeves joined together before working the striking colorwork yoke. The design is slim fitting with a slightly shorter body length, but if you prefer a looser fit, it is recommended to choose a larger size.

The pattern is worked in Ístex Léttlopi, a classic Icelandic yarn that combines warmth, durability, and breathability. Léttlopi comes in 50 g skeins with a length of 100 m, which equals 100 m per 50 g. The recommended colors are Green 9421 as the main shade (colour A), White 0051 as the contrast (colour B), and Black 0059 (colour C). The sweater is available in sizes XXS to 5XL, covering chest widths from 71 cm to 140 cm, body lengths from 30 cm to 46 cm, and sleeve lengths from 42 cm to 52 cm depending on size.

You will need both 4 mm and 5 mm needles. The ribbing is knitted on 4 mm needles, while the main body and yoke are worked on 5 mm needles. Circular needles of 40 and 60/80 cm are required, depending on the size, as well as double-pointed needles for the sleeves. The gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows to 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch on 5 mm needles, knitted in the round. This corresponds to a stitch gauge of 18 sts per 10 cm and ensures that the fabric has the right drape and fit.

For each size, different amounts of yarn are needed. For example, size XXS requires 6 skeins of the main color, size M requires 8 skeins, and size 5XL requires 12 skeins. The contrast colors are used in smaller quantities: White requires 1 to 3 skeins depending on size, and Black requires 1 skein across all sizes. The pattern includes detailed instructions for body, sleeves, and yoke, along with a clear chart to follow for the striking yoke motif.

The finishing touches include a ribbed neckline that can be folded and sewn down for extra comfort. Once completed, the sweater is washed and blocked to achieve its final shape and softness. The Vík Lopapeysa combines Icelandic tradition with a versatile design that suits both everyday wear and outdoor adventures, making it a true wardrobe classic.

Lidt om

Knitter from Iceland

I learned to knit at age 6 and fell in love right away. Over the years I’ve mostly focused on traditional Icelandic Wool sweaters (lopapeysa). After a burnout in 2023, knitting became my therapy. I couldn't decide which patterns to knit, so I decided to try and make my own. The process made me feel alive again, and that’s why I haven't stopped since. My inspiration comes from colors, nature, and even music or memories.
