Uddybende information
Hey Sweater is a beautiful Icelandic sweater design created by Rakel from Knitter from Iceland. This modern take on the traditional lopapeysa is knitted seamlessly from the bottom up, featuring a striking colorwork yoke. The pattern is designed for Istex Léttlopi yarn, which comes in 50 g skeins with a length of 100 meters. That equals a yardage of 200 m per 100 g, giving 100 m per 50 g skein. The yarn is airy, warm, and perfect for colorwork knitting, offering the durability and comfort that Icelandic wool is known for. The design uses three colors: Lagoon (9423) as the main shade, combined with Black (0059) and White (0051) for the contrasting yoke details.
The sweater is worked on circular needles, using both 4 mm and 5 mm sizes for ribbing and main body knitting, along with double-pointed needles for sleeves. The gauge is 18 stitches and 26 rows per 10 x 10 cm on 5 mm needles, knitted in the round. This ensures a firm yet flexible fabric that holds its shape beautifully. The fit is slim with a slightly shorter body length, but the designer recommends sizing up if you prefer a looser fit.
Sizes range from XXS to 5XL, with body widths from 71 cm to 140 cm and sleeve lengths from 42 cm to 52 cm depending on size. Each size requires different amounts of yarn, with the main color Lagoon taking between 5 skeins for XXS and up to 13 skeins for 5XL. Black and White are used in smaller amounts, from 1 skein each for the smaller sizes and up to 3 skeins for the largest sizes.
The sweater is knitted in the round, beginning with ribbing at the hem, then continuing up through the body and sleeves, which are later joined for the yoke. The yoke features a bold and modern charted design that varies slightly depending on size. The neckline is finished with ribbing for a neat and comfortable edge.
Hey Lopapeysa is a rewarding project for knitters who enjoy traditional Icelandic style with a modern twist. It’s an ideal sweater for cold climates, outdoor adventures, or cozy evenings indoors. Knitting with Léttlopi ensures a lightweight but warm garment that softens with washing and wear.
